Welcome to Sparky's Garden at ASU!
Nestled beside the Social Sciences Building at Arizona State University's Tempe Campus, Sparky's Garden is a vibrant, organic green space dedicated to cultivating both plants and community. Featuring 30 individual plots, this garden offers ASU students, faculty, and staff a unique opportunity to grow fresh produce and beautiful flowers in a sustainable, supportive environment. More than just a garden, Sparky's Garden serves as a living classroom and a reflection space where members of the ASU community can engage with principles of environmental stewardship. Here, you’ll practice environmental humility and learn how to adapt to Arizona's distinct desert climate and soil.
Our Master Gardener, Deb Thirkhill, offers an online gardening course where you can dive into practical tips and sustainable practices.
For Fall 2025, students can also explore related courses in sustainable gardening practices, including:
In Spring 2025, Sparky’s Garden directly supported immersive, hands-on experiences for students in:
- SOS 394: The Sustainability Virtues: Cultivating Character for a Flourishing Future
- LIA 194: Nature Writing
- SOS 494: Indigenous Food Systems
Through these connections, Sparky’s Garden continues to highlight sustainability, culture, and community in both coursework and lived experience.
